Performance Ponderings Plus Pictures! OR I Have Finally Updated!
Let’s see. Clearly, I haven’t updated for ages. Blame life. Yes, the usual I-don’t-have-time-to-write-about-my-life-experiences-because-I’m-busy-experiencing-said-life-experiences explanation works here. Anyway, here’s a follow-up of my previous entry. Yeah, because it’s more entertaining if this journal follows a soap opera format.
International Students Night (February 25)
Just read Tim’s entry for this. Oh, wait. This was a Wednesday and not just any other Wednesday, but Ash Wednesday. I had to wake up at 5 am to attend the morning mass at church. I remember not having enough sleep the day before so in order to get me through the day, I just had to get breakfast at McDonald’s (thereby breaking my vow not to eat fast food for a while because that's what you do after reading Fast Food Nation (swearing off fast food, not, breaking vows). Don't ask why. Just go read the book and find out for yourself.). It was a fine morning, the kind of morning that gives you that giddy feeling of being rejuvenated. I miss it. I want more of those.
The International Food and Culture Festival was a whole-day affair. Our breakfast was spent after decorating our booth with crepe paper and coconut leaves. We added some coconuts, real ones, to get the effect. What effect? I’m not sure. Until now. Anyway, just to let you have an idea of what our booth looked like …
Did I say booth? I meant us. Don’t we all look so, um, proud (and not at all sleepy)? Hee, this is still in Singapore and who says you can’t show your patriotism in a foreign country?
Anyway, our performance didn’t earn a standing ovation from the 50 or so people who came to watch us (Again, how hard is it to publicize this event in school, what with email, school webpage, bulletin boards, lecture announcements, flyers, banners, etc? It’s a mystery.). But we came out there to have fun and we did! Well, I think I could take a little credit. I made several obvious (OBVIOUS) mistakes that my juniors took every bit of willpower they had to stop themselves from laughing out loud. So yeah, in short, we were not a yawn, so of course we had to celebrate. And by celebrate I meant going to someone’s place and postponing fasting for one day to pig out on insane amounts of junk food. Definitely a night to remember.
CANTEMUS a.k.a Choir Concert 2004 a.k.a My Last School Choir Concert
Last time I incorporated time stamps in my concert entry. This year, though I would like a blow-by-blow account of this year’s concert, I couldn’t. I want to remember this experience in its entirety. It was one of the best moments of my life and if I could make a list of Good Things That Happened to Me So Far This Year, this would easily make it to the top 5.
In the three years that I’ve performed, this year’s concert was, hands down, the best. I think we sounded our best that day, especially the girls. My friends told me we improved a lot, there were no more cracks and we (the girls) could actually be heard! So, yay! The second half was a blast, not only for the audience but for us as well. I mean, how many times in your life are you given a chance to play as a slut? Zero? Yeah, so I was lucky (yes, if I follow this thought process). And it was really fun being in character. At least I preferred this role to a sweet, demure girlfriend in last year’s musical. Well, yeah! If you could do a Black-eyed Peas pose, how else could anyone top that?

Uh-huh. You can’t.
At the end of the concert, I got flowers and a box of Ferrero Rocher from my friends! And I got a white rose from my roommie! And another rose from a friend! How cool was that? Hee, I felt the love alright.
After our traditional photo taking inside the concert hall, we then headed to Lau Pa Sat for our traditional post-concert satay feast. Here’s the gang …
In the picture, those smiles didn’t mean hey, we just love taking pictures. Those smiles actually meant, hey, could we just leave? Now? Hungryyy!!!
This concert really meant a lot. It’s my last. There were songs that I felt like crying, almost cried, because I know I’ll never get to experience this again. It’s only this year that I truly cared for the choir. I’ve enjoyed the practices, scolding and all. I will miss everyone, especially those I’ve gotten to know better, from our Genting adventure to the concert day. I’m grateful for the one year I’ve spent singing with these people and for giving me the best concert ever.
So that wraps up my February. I can imagine some of you shaking your fist up on the air and yelling, “Give us some March news! March!” Okay, okay. March.
I watched In America and Dirty Dancing 2. I cried in the former and didn’t really like the latter. It was mediocre, DD2. I only wanted to watch it because DD1 meant so much for me and my high school friends. We would go to someone’s place, get some junk food along the way and watch DD1. I think we did it more than once. I fell in love with the soundtrack and Patrick Swayze’s voice. So I went to watch DD2, thinking it would evoke the same feeling, or at least the nostalgia. But no, I was disappointed. Not even Patrick Swayze’s cameo could save it. Well, anyhow, I’m not saying it’s a bad movie. It’s not. Maybe I just miss Dirty Dancing 1 (and of course, Patrick Swayze).
In other news, I’m going to watch Neri Per Caso this Saturday!!! They’re back! Yay! I’m still crazy about them that my boyfriend wished he was one of them. Hee. I can’t wait!
Wow. Life is good. I’m slowly bringing myself into accepting the fact that exams are coming in less than a month. But aside from that, things are going well and I’m happy. Really happy.
Oh, and special thanks to Ghirardelli in Double Chocolate! I'm a fan.
