Holy Week (Pre-Easter Vigil) '04

It's Holy Week and since Wednesday I've been going to church.

Wednesday

Our church is holding a special Mother's Day (hence, special) celebration on May 8 and they have decided to put up a show. WITH A LIVE BAND! And I'm singing! Yes! I didn't know doing back-up can be so much fun. I was dancing most of the time. I mean, there can never be too much dancing when you're a back-up singer. But to those wondering, yeah, I'll be doing one song as lead. I'll be singing "Get Here" by ... oh shoot, I can't find the CD. It's somewhere ... buried ... underneath my ... noooootes, uh, here. Yup, it's by Brenda Russell and Dave Koz. But we still have a lot of polishing to do (or in my case, a lot of pitching problems to correct). I've been doing my homework in advance ("advance" is based on my history of completing homeworks which ... okay, that's for another entry) to make room for band practice but I'm not complaining. It makes me feel good, actually, to be doing something other than school and school and school. Speaking of which, I forgot I had a test the next day. Decided to wake up at 5 am the next day to cram for it. I didn't really care for that subject anyway. People around me were making a big deal out of it but I refuse to do the same.

Thursday

I managed to do all (two) questions in the test! Yay! Good thing I didn't spend too much time studying for it. In fact, I didn't study for it at all. Yay!

I went for the 7 pm service with Lenny. I thought we couldn't eat meat that day that I just had two paos. After the mass and singing 15 minutes of Taize songs, I was starving. Lenny told me it was okay to eat meat so we went to KFC, of course.

Friday

I woke up at 9:20 am and resisted going back to sleep (not that I can go back to sleep because I. Just. Can't.). I had to be at church by 10:30 am so naturally, I had to cut my bathing time to 40 minutes instead of the usual 60. I reminded myself that people will be late so I didn't have to be so impeccably punctual. And this reminder earned me 15 minutes for coffee. Nice, huh? Then it occurred to me that I should be fasting. I ate the last two Boasters cookies. I didn't ingest anything until I came back to my room around 6 pm. That's fasting. And scary.

Well, there was no time to eat. When I arrived at church, only my conductor was there. We had to chat (topics ranged from Hellboy to hair, I think)for at least half an hour before the other choir members started arriving. We then practiced singing before we went inside the church for the Easter Vigil rehearsal.

Since Easter Vigil will start outside the church, we had to position ourselves outside the church, too. This was 1 pm. And at this time, anywhere is better than outside WITH THE SUN DIRECTLY ABOVE YOU ALL YOU NEED IS TO BE RUBBED WITH SALT AND YOU'LL BE A DRIED FISH IN NO TIME. And of course we stayed outside (melting, dried up) for at least half an hour. Instructions were that long.

Inside the church, more singing followed. Then we excused ourselves around 2:30 pm to attend the 3 pm service at another (bigger, brighter) church. We took a cab and thus were not late but still late to be getting any seat.

The mass was beautiful. I was able to kiss the feet of Jesus on a crucifix. The sermon, as with the large hanging sculpture of an injured Jesus in the church, reminded me of The Passion of the Christ. I so cried in this movie. How could you not? Anyway, after the service, I went to do some grocery shopping and went back to my room. Hungry.

I just had noodles and I thought I'd be sleeping early. But after calling Mom and Dad, I decided to do some work before calling it a day. Yeah, parents really motivate you to study. I mean, they didn't tell me to hey, study. I just felt like studying after talking to them. Anyway, as I was about to open my book, Jussy IMed me and asked if I wanted to join them in eating pomelo. Why, of course! It was hot in my room anyway, and after my half an hour "picnic" under the sun this afternoon, I wanted to go outside and feel the cool night air.

I walked to Jussy's place, then climbed the stairs to canteen A, where the pomelo was. What's so special about this pomelo? It's from home! One of our friends sent cornchild a pomelo and of course he had no choice but to share it with the rest of us.

I did some work, but not that much because I got lazy again. Went back to my room around 2 am and slept. Woke up around 5 hours later and couldn't go back to sleep.

I have some errands to run, school-related of course. And I have to prepare my outfit for Easter Vigil. And I have to do laundry. Okay, I had better stop writing and work on striking those items under my list of Things To Do.

In other news: Yay, Ivy!
