The Missing Valentine's Day Entry
Exam period is for catching up. Same thing applies here.
Every year I've always wanted to share what I did during Valentine's day but then something else happens and I write about that instead. I've never been sad during those times, really. Last year, I remember I asked some of my friends for a trip to Plaza Singapura primarily to get the award-winning Secret Recipe cheesecakes. Though we had to eat it outside of the mall because it was packed (I should remember this), and settle on the pavement, with thorny bushes lovingly poking our butts, it was fun for me.
This year, I could not feel more blessed. Aside from the absence of thorny bushes, I actually got Valentine's Day gifts! Yes, the bearer included. I understand guys feel stressed during this period because they have to do this and that but they don't understand WHY they have to. It's not an anniversary! So I told Donny, none of that fancy stuff. Let's just spend that day together, that's all.
He told me, "Here's my plan. We'll barbeque. I'll get shrimps for you because I know you love those ... oh no, I told you already! I wanted to keep it a surprise. Hrrm." Hee!
So on Sunday night, Valentine's Day eve, we cooked chicken wings, ham, bacon, sausages and shrimps over our mini-grill right outside his room. He prepared all the grillables, and made potato salad so that we have something to eat while waiting for the grillables to cook. I just had to show up and help him cook. Well, not really help as to hand him the fork/plate/napkin. Ok, I was there for moral support. Not that I didn't volunteer because I did, but he didn't want to hear any of it, so he basically did everything. Now that's some serious pampering. I love it!
The funny part was we gave each other the same gift. I mean, THE SAME. I got Royce's Nama Chocolate in Almond and Hazelnut and I got him the Champagne flavor. That's, I don't know, connection, right? We couldn't stop laughing! Luckily we didn't meet at the shop while buying our gifts. That would've been really funny.
After we have calmed down, I gave him a big (No, BIG.) V-day card that I designed. I could see he was really touched by it. He sat down, pouting, and adorably complained why I made this day so special and so now, he couldn't possibly beat my gifts. Hee! He has just the right amount of childish. Then he gave me this:
He said, "I'm not giving you flowers. [insert mini-rant about flower shops taking advantage of the holiday]. So I just made you these." Then he handed me a cute jar.
"Oh ... (I got excited) are these ... you made me pineapple tarts? You--how? When?" Then he told me the details. He even shaped the tarts into little pigs because I was born in the year of the pig (and we often joke about this). The cuteness of the pig-shaped tarts made me not want to eat them. But I got tempted, eventually. And let me tell you, those are some of the most delicious tarts I have tasted and I have tasted A LOT. Seriously, I'm not being biased. Hands down, the pineapple tarts definitely trumped my BIG card.
I love that he remembers what I like (shrimps, pineapple tarts) and makes an effort to let me have it. He's awesome.
